This book, 15 RareGuitars, grew from the personal collection of guitars that the author acquired over several years. They were found in many different locations and 11 were restored and then purchased by guitar enthusiasts. While doing these projects, the author could then compose and perform works for some of these instruments.
The remaining 4 guitars are in the author's permanent collection. When he found the 1949 Jose Ramirez II guitar, he could not resist keeping it. Besides being a guitar with a great sound, it was made the year of his birth!
The Contreras guitar was especially commissioned and made for him in 1972 by M. G. Contreras. In 1973 he visited Contreras in Madrid and that same summer performed with the guitar for Andres Segovia at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes in a master class there. He's had that guitar for 53 years at the time of the publication of this book [revised edition], 2025.
The beauty of the guitar and the absolute joy of collecting and documenting them is what 15 RareGuitars is all about.
