The letters of Maj. Powers to his recent bride, Estelle Brabant, take the reader through the places and experiences that Powers lived from March 1944 to August 1945. We are with Powers as he prepares for the D-Day invasion, as he moves into a "foxhole for two" somewhere in France. We are with him as he works tirelessly, at one point performing 250 surgical cases in a month. We are with him when he tries to find his wife's relatives in Paris. Most of all, we feel the charming love of a dedicated surgeon for his new wife. He wants nothing more than to be with her but gives his best every day to treat the patients brought to him. Fifty-two photos and 52 illustrations, 2 maps.

I received a BA in history from Scripps College, an MA in European History from University of Illinois, and was a Summer Seminarian at West Point in 2004. I am the recipient of awards from the American Legion, the Indiana Historical Society, the DAR and the Indianapolis WW2 Round Table. I have taught European History, Military History, Historiography at the secondary level, and German at secondary and college levels. I founded and continue to direct the Legacy Initiative Project, whose mission is to provide hands-on history research opportunities for motivated students, including the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Hundreds of the best wartime oral histories, letters and diaries have been published in five anthologies, four biographies, as well as WW1 and WW2 themed travel journals.
