This book is a photographic record of a visit to Chile in November and December, 2006. All images were originally captured on colour negative or transparency film.



On a map the shape of Chile seems absurd - almost 4000 km long but only 180 km wide on average. However, Chile's boundaries make sense. Bordered on the east by the barrier of the Andes mountains that cut it off from Argentina, separated from Peru in the north by the arid Atacama Desert, isolated from other land in the west by the Pacific Ocean, Chile is truly a geographically contained area. Most nations have a north, south, east, and west but it is true to say that in Chile there really is only the north, middle, and south. The huge range of latitudes covered by Chile mean that there is an incredible diversity of landscapes and climates. It is a country of contrasts and extremes from the Atacama Desert in the north, one of the driest regions in the world, to Patagonia in the south, one of the wettest. In the middle is a near ideal climate for growing fruit and producing fine wines.
