His work encourages the viewer to study what lies behind these surfaces at images which become so obscured as to almost, but not quite, vanish. Bright flashes of colour seduce the eye into an examination of the darker imagery that lies beneath. Regardless of any mystery and ambiguity however, the sheer delight in the gestural use of paint is an inherent quality that remains constant.
