In my life I have always followed my passions. From running around the streets of Manhattan working in the fashion photography industry to scoring waves at my favorite surf spot - Ocean Beach, San Francisco. I have always gone in head first. Figuring things out as I go.

Each installment of Griff Presents has been a snippet of what I am feeling. A visual representation of my life in real time. This issue, titled Fore Play, provides a look into my love and passion for the game of golf.

Golf has changed me more as a person than almost anything I have added to my life (except for being a parent of two). From the start, the game proved to be the ultimate challenge. A sport with countless variables that is arguably impossible to master. As it keeps a person coming back to try and be one shot better. Time after time.

My relationship with golf began years back, when my family and I went to meet up with another family at their country club in Marin County. There I thought we were all going to spend a day lounging at the pool. Instead, the dad of the bunch threw down a set of right hand golf clubs (I’m still a true lefty, go ahead and insert the wrong side of the box jokes here) and informed me that we were playing golf!

Around 200 strokes later and a bruised ego to boot, he gave me those clubs and my world literally changed for the better ever since. Soon after that inauspicious debut, I convinced my wife to let me get a left handed set. Today we live on a course in Colorado, and the passion (but not my scores) continues to grow.

Many close friends who were surprised at my connection to the sport, would ask me “How did it start?” Why golf?” My answer has always been simple. In golf, I have discovered the ability to find common ground with people from all walks of life. In a world that is increasingly divided. The mindset needed to perform well, and the game’s natural landscape beauty makes life’s distractions die down. And during certain rounds, even fade away.
