A photographic record of the 2018 archaeological excavation of Sheffield Castle in the City of Sheffield, England that was the prison to Mary Queen of Scots for 14 years. It was finally destroyed by Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War. The excavation was carried out by Wessex Archaeology under the watchful eye of lead archaeologist, Milica Rajic with the assistance of hundreds of volunteers.

Paul Rowland is an English artist, designer, photographer, writer with a passion for history and archaeology since childhood. He has carried out research for three episodes of the BBC's award winning TV programme, 'Who Do You Think You Are?' His painting of the WW2 American Bomber 'Mi Amigo' that crashed in Sheffield in 1944 is displayed next to the memorial to the crew who perished in the crash in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield. His aviation paintings have been displayed in the Mall Galleries in London and elsewhere. He has written commissioned articles in numerous genealogical and history magazines over the years. He lives in Sheffield with his wife and two daughters.
