A personal reflection on the remarkable journey of four young Australian agricultural scientists to the USSR at the height of the Cold War. Their mission was to collect the seeds of wild plants that may benefit crop and pasture plant improvement in Australia. After a conference in Moscow, the four travelled to remote Central Asia and the Caucasus, visiting places rarely seen, capturing in photographs the landscapes and inhabitants along the way.
