Acerca del libro
These photos were captured in the brief time after my graduation from college and before my induction into “the real world”. It captures a road trip my partner and I took from Portland, Oregon to San Francisco, California. My intent was to find beauty in the banal; to photograph moments and imagery that may otherwise be forgotten, but have a sense of beauty to them. The story I wanted to tell through these images was a feeling of young love on the verge of big changes, vulnerability and self-discovery, and to express this small and fleeting moment between college and the corporate world. The long stretches of highway gave me the opportunity to reflect on my relationship with my partner, my time in college, and to process the grief that comes along with graduating and moving on.
I chose to use a combination of digital and film photography. I wanted to create photos with a cinematic quality, and I felt that film could add a more tactile affect than digital. The subject matter of the photos varies from landscape to portraiture to street photography. I shot what felt ordinary but interesting. I was attracted to things that felt slightly out of place. I chose to use unusual focusing techniques to show a feeling of something fading
and evolving.
