Born in Lansing, Michigan I enlisted in the Marine Corps after one year of college in Muskegon, Michigan. Twenty years later I retired from the Marines and moved to Corvallis, Montana. In 2013 I graduated from the University of Montana with a BS in (natural) Resource Conservation and a minor in Wildland Restoration. I am in my fourth season working on the Bitterroot National Forest as a Biological Technician where I get to spend about 90% of my work season in the forests of western Montana. After reading my poems it won't be surprising to anyone that I have had trauma in my life that has affected my growth as a person. Some refer to it as PTSG (Post Traumatic Stress Growth.) My post traumatic growth was catalyzed by seven years counseling at the Missoula Vet Center where I was introduced to mindfulness. My poems are non-judgemental observations intended to create self-awareness that leads to improved emotional intelligence and less extreme responses to stimuli.
