STATES OF BEING 2008 is a collection of seldom seen images created by Roger Minick during one year, 2008. Recalling that memorable time, Minick writes: “While my previous four decades of work had been mostly traditional in approach –– a few exceptions being when I experimented with solarization, double exposures, diptychs and triptychs, hand-coloring black and white prints –– it was the arrival of digital, Photoshop in particular, that inspired me to seriously explore new ways of seeing, both in the world around me and in the studio. Suddenly, I felt liberated. I no longer censored myself, as I had done for years, when I had often reminded myself that I should stay within ‘my style’. That I might fail at this new venture was never allowed to dampen my excitment. I was having too much fun!”
