Before the clocks rolled over on the last millennium, talk of Y2K and world-wide fear of catastrophic electronics failure, wide-spread power outages and chaos dominated the news – reminiscent of the fears preceding the rollover from 999 to 1000. Rosing’s epic painting, “Measures of the Millennia,” celebrates and commemorates facts and foibles of human history in a series of 21 intricate abstract paintings symbolizing the rain and tears of 20 centuries with a questioning eye to the future. The book, “Measures of the Millennia,” documents these exquisite paintings and reveals the inscriptions on each panel, including sometimes sobering, sometimes quirky, but always fascinating historical details characterizing each century.
