This project is about bodies. It is about how each body visually communicates with the next.

We are of a society and species that has grown to rely on vision above all our other senses. As we grow, we are often taught to associate certain ideas with corresponding physical attributes. In truth, ideas control behavior; if we believe something to be true, we will act towards it accordingly. It is through the process of seeing that we as humans form ideas and biases about the world and those within it. As corporeal and social beings, our bodies stand as compelling displays from which to see and be seen; the individual becomes both ‘Spectacle’ and ‘Spectator’.

From body to body, send nudes examines the far-reaching implications of the social body image as it impacts internal perception and subsequent external behavior. Sustained by volunteer participation, each subject is photographed and interviewed in their home and in the nude. Over the course of one hour, the shared space and conversation are captured audibly and visually. Structured by four key interview questions, the project works to draw parallels between an ever-growing collection of seemingly ‘conflicting’ physical bodies. The photographs are composed simply, using the room’s natural light to illuminate the subject in their essence. Session by session another unique yet relatable narrative is revealed.
