John Russell, author of "Discovering Byfield", has now written his memoirs – the story of a life lived in the village of Byfield in Northamptonshire. It ranges from childhood, when the cane was still used in school, to National Service in the RAF, and on through a career which led finally to the Ministry of Transport. Chapters are devoted to John’s service on Byfield Parish Council and Daventry District Council, and on his many voluntary activities within the village. As this book makes clear, Byfield would be a very different, and poorer, place today without John’s sense of public duty and enormous energy over so many years.
