This is a record of a memorable and rewarding tour. London Concert Choir members flew out on Wednesday 16 July 2014 and stayed in a hotel just outside Assisi. With its well-preserved medieval streets and houses and its treasures of art and architecture, the birthplace of St Francis proved itself to be one of Italy’s great tourist sights.
On Thursday 17 July we gave a repeat performance of Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons in the Basilica of San Francesco with Southbank Sinfonia and the same soloists as in London. On subsequent days we sang two unaccompanied concerts of English sacred choral music: the first at a joint concert with a local choir in the picturesque town of Gubbio as part of their Summer Festival, and the second in the magnificent Gothic Cathedral at Orvieto.
