Many years ago, I paid an all-too-brief visit to the floating city. I realised immediately that this was a special place - like no other city I have ever visited - where the shutter button of my camera cries out to be clicked on almost every turn.

Returning on two short visits in the last couple of years, I set out to capture as much of the life of this most charismatic and beguiling of cities, both by day and by night. Although I have arranged the resulting pictures somewhat thematically, you will notice that I haven’t attempted further explanation … when one wanders around Venice, I don’t believe many are intentionally heading down one callé or another … does it matter? Breathtaking churches, architecture, art, colour, and above all water, greet the visitor on every turn.
