Acerca del libro
Kit Gripp's evocative debut collection of poetry plunges headfirst into the unsteady unfurling of a young woman's sexual discovery and quest for identity. the world she inhabits is continually re-shaped by tarnished fairytale expectations and religious imagery that warps and twists the further she steps from childhood. Hers is a dream-world populated by cigarette-smoking gods and alcoholic angels, where skeletons embrace each other tenderly in the dark and virgins resent their ability to call forth unicorns. But amidst the turmoil and uncertainty that surrounds the storms of heartache and desire, a ray of hop shines like redemption through the darkest moment of this universal coming-of-age story. An almost child-like belief in the wonder of loving and being loved is the glue that binds these little broken pieces of poetry together.

Katharine Gripp
Berkeley, CA

Katharine's first big break as a published author came in the 5th grade, when her short story "A Squirrel's Tale" (unabashedly set in a very Redwall-like universe) was published nationally in Young Authors of America, Vol. 10. Since then, she has focused on writing character-driven stories that take place in science fiction or fantasy settings. Her short story "reBirth" will appear in issue 8 of SciPhi Journal in October of 2015. She began writing poetry in middle and high school with the intention that no one would ever read it, but developed her personal poetic style in college under the tutelage of writers Michael Joyce, David Means, and Molly McGlennen. She also works, lives, and plays as a professional modern dancer, ballet teacher, creative arts non-profit employee, freelance artist, and fine art model. She holds a B.A. in English from Vassar College, with a correlate in Medieval and Renaissance history.
