Sara Emma Elder was born in a small Georgia town in 1931 She was raised in the country with an extended family around to provide a loving and rich environment where she thrived. "I guess we were poor but, I didn't know it." she would tell her children. There was no electricity or running water. They used kerosene lamps, gas stoves and drew their water from the well. She had three sisters, one of whom died at the age of two. This book details her childhood of simple living through her nurses training, marrying and raising five children along with her career as a nurse.
