Pipes have been around in the Navy for many a long year though not until 1951 were they formally recognised as an instrument which contributed to the welfare of those who serve. This booklet does not pretend to record everything there is to know about pipes in the Navy, but it is an attempt to place on record that which has come to hand. It is dedicated to the late Captain David Mellis DSC Royal Navy who took on all the work to found the original Society in 1951 and is a tribute to all those that have taken part since.
