Northern England is known for many things, some serious, others a little wacky: monkey hangers, the curious Burning Bartle Ceremony and ferret legging. There are places called Crackpot, Giggleswick and Sexhow and it was the birthplace of Stan Laurel, Guy Fawkes, the Bounty mutineer Fletcher Christian and James Cook.
