I was in Iraq from November 23, 2008 until August 12, 2011. I witnessed three changes of command; I worked with XVIII Airborne Corps (twice), I Corps, and III Corps. I witnessed many historic events, and became friends with a host of incredible people. My team and myself became almost fixtures, returning troops would ask in amazement “Are you still here?” I became known as the Al Faw Palace photographer. My job with the Command PAO (Public Affairs Office) meant that any event taking place in headquarters I was going to photograph. In putting together this book, I have tried to select photos that are interesting. There are many books on Iraq that are a comprehensive study of the war; this book is not one of those. This book is not even close to a complete study of what I photographed from 08 to 11. Out of many thousands of photographs I have tried to select images that are interesting and meaningful. It is my hope that the photos will bring back some memories for those that were there, and for those who were not in Iraq I hope they can find the work a study of a time and place by one photographer, one man with a camera, in an unusual and historic time and place.
