Acerca del libro
James Robinson's subject matter is broad, encompassing mysticism and magic, mythology and history and social and ecological concerns. He touches on issues pertaining to the environment, resource grabs, mass extinctions, technology and resistance to the corporate world, but equally meditates on the primordial and elemental, on spirituality, magic and the alchemy of transformation.
Indeed, how the works are made echoes what they are about, and the adaptability of paper makes it the perfect medium with which to purge and process a multitude of ideas. In some respects, these works are made by a process of accumulation; Robinson’s themes, motifs and constellations coalesce, recur and overlap repeatedly.
Passages of text work to draw the viewer close. Ranging from lyrical to sardonic and political, this text is sourced from personal reflections, conversations with friends and published works of known poets. The language of material is also important; a range of media is incorporated - including paint, cloth, shells and all manner of organic material. The resulting works are compelling testaments to Robinson’s honest and energetic art practice.
