This guide book is for the Sleets Gill; Hawkswick Cote Roman Camp Waterfall Walk from the "Waterfall Walks in the Geological and Archaeological landscape of Malhamdale and the Surrounding Area", series of guide books, where the route of one walk encompasses views of waterfalls, geological and archaeological features of Malhamdale and the surrounding area that are sat in a back drop of scenic beauty formed by ice age glaciation and the deposition of carboniferous limestone scenery that attracts many visitors to the area. This walk is an arduous walk and you should allow at least eight to 10 hours for this walk depending on rest periods, kit carried, weather and size of group. Nonetheless it takes in a number of interesting features ranging from archaeological; - prehistoric barrows (burial mounds) and Roman camps, Industrial mining; -mines, hushings and kilns, and the geological; - limestone pavement, Vee and U valleys, springs, and waterfalls.
