In the first half of the twentieth century, Europe experienced two world wars, each unprecedented in magnitude by anything before, the second beginning 21 years after the end of the first. Millions died in the European killing fields. The photographs presented here provide a visual journey to where so many known and unknown soldiers are buried, and how they have been commemorated. In North America, we have National Military Cemeteries, and a sprinkling of those from former wars, more so in the United States. But nothing compares to what exists in Europe. This photographic odyssey reveals a portion of the staggering losses that Europe, and allied nations, suffered in battle.
