The John Muir Trail -- From Florence Lake to Cedar Grove, 1962, is a tale of two young guys who camped out in the High Sierra of California in the days before backpacking became popular, and permits were required. They saw no other backpackers for almost two weeks.
The story of their days of cooking with scavenged wood and sleeping without a tent or air mattress, is balanced by the awe inspired views they captured in wonderful photographs of the mountains and meadows of the Calif Sierra Nevada.
The authors hope that their book will give the reader some idea of the adventure they had, but also be a motivation to go to the mountains and see their beauty for themselves. This is the 1st Edition.

LAWRENCE G. DESMOND has had a life long love of the outdoors. He's hiked the mountains of California, Colorado, Mexico, Nepal, and Switzerland, and bagged a few peaks. His many years as an archaeologist has kept him outdoors a lot of the time, and climbing up and down the ancient Maya and Aztec pyramids in Mexico. He taught for many years and is currently associated with the Moses Mesoamereican Archive and Research Project at Harvard University, and the Department of Anthropology at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. KENNETH L. PARKER learned about the outdoors in scouting activities in Colorado and at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Other favorite hiking places are New Zealand, the Maritime Alps of Italy and France, and the Canadian Rockies. He has a physics degree from the Univ. of Colo., and other degrees from the Universities of Oregon and Virginia. Now retired, he has been employed by NASA, Burlington Industries, and the State of North Carolina.
