If photography is a language then photos are the words of that language and the style of a photo is it's grammar. We now have instant style with our mobile phones and filters applied through such apps as Instagram or (my favourite) Snapseed. Our instagrammar has created a visual slang language. Casual, streetwise, fun, everywhere, perceptive, obnoxious. In my book photos don't tell the story they are the story.
