Steinmannli, way markers, are a common sight up in the Alps in Switzerland: a stack of grey stones. This book shows that Steinmannli can be made with real characters and with colorful dresses. They fit in harmoniously in the palette of the valleys and rivers of the mountains. The stones are white, pink or red marble here, black granite there, yellow sandstone or green and almost black serpentinite that give simultaneous contrasts of colors and forms . The stones are polished from ages of washing with melting water. Or they are rough-cut minerals and rocks higher up in the mountain.
