The Ross Sea is a world away from the fleeting visits most make to Antarctica across the Drake Passage and onto the Antarctic Peninsula.



In early 2008, 40 friends chartered their own ship and went deep into the Ross Sea of Antarctica. Eventually we reached Ross Island and explored the island of the heroic age of exploration. While there we visited the huts at the center of both Scott and Shackleton's legendary Antarctic expeditions.



We crushed our way to 77 degrees 54 south to variously bike, golf, cricket, football and walk on the ice, dive under the ice and canoe on the water!



On the way we visited a number of uninhabited islands of the sub-antarctic: Auckland Island, Campbell Island, Enderby Island, and Macquarie Island. The wildlife was incredible, getting close to many species of penguin, seal, whale and birds. On Enderby Island we were able to rescue a dozen pups trapped in a bog. That alone was worth the trip.



This journal and the hundreds of stunning photographs we took are a record of that journey and an exploration of a landscape very rarely seen.
