The Capture the Spirit of Ramadan Photography Book is the first and only photography publication dedicated entirely to Islam's holy month. Created under the direction of Palestinian American architect and creative director Basel Almisshal, founder of the Spirit of Ramadan initiative, it gathers award-winning images from across the Muslim world and beyond: Makkah, Madinah, Jerusalem, Gaza, Cairo, Istanbul, and dozens of cities across forty countries.
In its first year, the Capture the Spirit of Ramadan International Photography Competition attracted over 25,000 photographers worldwide, with more than 1,000 unique entries from forty countries. This book is a tribute to those photographers and a rare visual document of Ramadan as it is lived around the world. From quiet moments of reflection to vibrant scenes of celebration, these photographs capture traditions that are seldom documented and, in some places, no longer possible to photograph.
More than a photography book, it is a cross-cultural and interfaith bridge: an invitation to see the essence of Ramadan through the eyes of those who live it.
