Known by several names, the Rock Island Railroad was in operation from 1847 to 1980. It started at LaSalle Street Station in Chicago and ran west to Denver, Southwest to New Mexico and South to Memphis. The images in this collection, taken in the late 1970’s, show the state of operations at it’s eastern most reach. The Rock was finally at the end of the line.
