"Urban Nomad" uses randomly placed poetic text written as a commentary on culture, myth and identity to create a visual narrative that questions a variety of issues within the context of modern urban culture. By placing words in a seemingly random order, the viewer has the possibility to construct phrases that create new meaning. The juxtaposition of words and images in the series examine cultural identity and urban mythology as it relates to common belief systems integrated with societal perceptions of acceptance, place, faith, power, and tolerance.

This is an ongoing series that began in 1983 and includes images from a variety of locations around the world.

The book is published using Blurb's Custom Workflow to ensure the highest and most consistent quality.

David Levy
Copenhagen, Denmark

Danish-American photographer, David Levy was born in Landsthul, Germany in 1962. He received his first camera at the age of 10 and immediately fell in love with the medium. Since his childhood he has been exploring and experimenting with a variety of media including painting, drawing, woodworking and sculpture. Recent work includes experimental video and 16mm film. He studied Art History and Communications at the University of California, Irvine. His professional career includes a number of curatorial and gallery director positions for public and private organizations. He has also taught photography at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art and the University of Oregon in addition to private workshops. He currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he owns an alternative exhibition and studio space. (www.davidlevyphoto.com)
