Palo Alto, California, October 19, 2011

In the days following the death of Steve Jobs, many of us walked by the Apple store in Palo Alto (Steve's hometown) and posted small (sometimes large) sticky notes to the store window.

As the number of notes grew, I became increasingly aware of the powerful messages that they held. The overall message in all this is profound, and sets a high benchmark for entrepreneurs, designers, CEOs and any other individuals who aspire to change the world. I wanted to make sure that at least a fraction of all these notes was captured and made available to everybody who did not have the chance to witness it personally. I randomly picked 1,111 notes to show, as well as a few overview shots, that hopefully do justice to this touching happening.

It was not only the notes that made this special but also the overall atmosphere around the store during the days since Steve passed. People were discussing stories and memories. Many notes referred to Steve’s speech at Stanford back in 2005. The diversity of contributors truly brought our world together. I saw evidence that all major religions, all continents, dozens of languages, nations and origins, very young kids to the elderly alike were sharing one window to allow this memorial to come alive. Everybody side by side with one mission.

Profits from sales of this book will go to College Track, a non-profit co-founded by Laurene Powell Jobs, and to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a charity established by Jim Valvano shortly before he passed away in 1993. College Track is the catalyst for change for under-resourced high school students who are motivated to earn a college degree. The V Foundation is an incredible organization dedicated to finding cures for cancer.

Thank you very much for your support.

As Steve would say: Stay hungry. Stay foolish.
