Traditional Maine wooden boatbuilding is alive and well on an island of the coast of Maine. One family celebrates 120 years of boat building in the same building as it's founding patriarch J O Brown. Turning a former clam factory into a boat shop in the 1880's, J O Brown started a legacy that continues today for the Brown family. Building quality handcrafted wooden boats has been the core of the family business. His methods, techniques and tools have been handed down for the last 120 years through to the fifth generation of the Brown family.

This photographic essay takes you along on the journey of the making of Agnes, a 23' classic wooden launch. Two and a half years of photos depicting the many stages of old-style boatbuilding.
