A collection of memories from the author’s childhood in Bolivia during the 1930s and 1940s. Stories of life in mining towns of the Altiplano, and later in Cochabamba and La Paz, are embellished with family photographs and paintings of indigenous people and scenes of Latin America.

The author's photograph depicts René V. Gumucio, author of this material. The anthology of stories, comments, photographs, and art of René V. Gumucio was compiled by his wife, Susan H. Gumucio. René V. Gumucio was born in Bolivia in 1925 and came to California in 1950 to further his education in architecture. He became a U.S. citizen and practiced architecture during a career that extended into the next century. Over the years, the building industry recognized his work with many national awards for innovation and design excellence. René was passionate about his family and work—and fishing!
