"Flying The Hump" follows an Oklahoma Panhandle farmer/rancher as he fights muddled bureaucratic red tape and Army age regulations to fly for his country in WWII.

Although pushing age 35, George Aycock believed the country needed him somewhere in that great global conflict.

Turns out he was right; the US Military Transport Command needed pilots to take supplies, war material and troops over the Himalayan Mountains in fragile two motored planes, 900 of which slammed into mountain sides killing their three-man crews.

The generals found that older men mixed among 20-year-old hotshots helped keep squadrons on the ball.

By the end of the war, casualties on the Hump runs dropped dramatically;

William Roberts

Roberts was born in 1934; grew up in OK, AR and NM, and majored in journalism at the University of Oklahoma, class of 195 Over the 50+ years following OU, he has served in many communications roles: Since 2000, he has served private clients as a personal historian helping families, veterans and organizations record their significant past. Prior to this service, he was executive editor of "Oklahoma Living, " the state's 3rd largest publication (circ. 278,000). As partner in Image Marketing, he worked with national firms through localized special events, such as Marlboro Country Music Concerts, Virginia Slims Tennis Tournaments, DeBeers Diamond Exhibits. Roberts was a founder of "Oklahoma Business" with a "Fortune" format and focusing on successful Sooner start-ups. He developed the first financial PR services in Oklahoma supporting public issues of Drilling Joint Ventures. He was the first Oklahoma PR practitioner certified by the Public Relations Society of America.
