"In The Beginning

In December 2006, Mark and I moved to an idyllic village just outside London, England for his new job. We did not imagine just how much travel this new position would involve. Living abroad was going to be an adventure in and of itself. Before we even moved to England, our travel adventure began with a trip to Switzerland. Mark was directed at short notice to provide field support for a client, just days before our first planned trip to England. This would be the first of many trips abroad.

In the coming year we would travel to Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Finland, Greece, Turkey, Austria and Germany. Mark would make solo journeys to Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. I kept a journal through it all. We always said we wanted to travel and see the world. Who knew it would happen so quickly and that we would get to see so much. I wanted to write about it while it was still fresh in my mind.

In the beginning, with that first trip to Switzerland, my writings and notes were brief and the number of photos we took were limited. I still had not found my voice. But as the months passed and we were thrown into more adventures, I found more and more joy in everything we did and saw... always thinking "I can't wait to write about this!" This book is a collection of my travel writing and photos from our first year of adventures."
