A group called the MWS,

Turned out lim’ricks so fine that I’d guess

Some have used practice time

In the spring of 2008 we began a limerick contest among our members, the subject of the limericks being the various instruments in the concert band. We approached the project in score order (high to low woodwinds, high to low brasses, and percussion), and it was a running joke that no one was allowed to use their personal practice time to write limericks, hence the subject of the above rhyme.



Although we began this more for fun than any other reason, it turns out that the MWS members have a real flair for limericks; these rhymes were good! So we decided to put them together into a book, with the hope that it would become an effective fundraiser in a time when many funding sources for the arts have dried up.
