Acerca del libro
"Heartwood; the hard central wood of a tree trunk that provides the tree’s support."
I was inspired by the amazing natural patterns and colours and at the same time saddened in knowing that these trees had been felled by humans. I found these conflicting feelings drew me into photographing a series around local bushland parks in my home of Melbourne, Australia.
I’ve created my own pattern throughout the book by contrasting the vivid colours of the younger trees with the darker tones of the older trees.
Each photograph is of a different tree and each tree seems to have its own distinct character. Just like wrinkles on a human’s face, the number of rings indicates the age of the tree. I now almost see these photographs as portraits. In a way they are like faces; faces of many generations that have their own history.
