For six months during 2008-2009 I took the White Tent around the country photographing interest groups for The Guardian Magazine’s ‘Take 10’ series. As the name suggests, each week, ten people, animals or things - all with a common interest or theme - were photographed and featured with a short essay. This book contains some of my favourite subjects from the series.
Setting up the studio in tight spaces was frequently a logistical nightmare and often required fast responses - as when my first highly-strung cat leapt straight through the white paper background! Or setting up for a full length portrait in a crowded boxing gym with all the lighting and wires, without stepping on the feet of skipping boxers. We were careful to be very polite. On each session the struggles were more than rewarded with great conversations and learning obscure facts delivered wit
