A Stunning Journey into Florida’s Hidden Springs and Sinkholes
Imagine Florida’s springs and sinkholes transformed after darkness falls, their clear waters glowing from beneath the surface while the surrounding forests, limestone walls, and vegetation emerge from the night through carefully applied light.
In Illuminated Springs – Volume 3, photographer Guy Bryant and his team once again use underwater illumination and light painting to reveal Florida’s springs and sinkholes in a way they are rarely, if ever, seen. Underwater video lights illuminate the water from within while long-exposure photography and light painting bring the surrounding landscape out of the darkness. The resulting photographs reveal scenes with an almost otherworldly beauty.
This volume ventures beyond many of Florida’s familiar springs. Most of the springs and sinkholes featured in Volume 3 are little known to the public, and some are on private property or in places that most people will never have an opportunity to visit. One of the primary goals of this book is to offer a glimpse into these hidden places, allowing readers to experience some of Florida’s remarkable natural features that otherwise remain largely unseen.
Among the notable locations featured in this volume are:
• Sweetwater Spring
• Branford Spring
• Ruth Spring
• Skiles Sink
• Devil’s Den
• Sanlando Spring
Along with these better-known locations are numerous lesser-known springs and sinkholes, each possessing its own character, history, and nighttime beauty.
Each location includes a description, along with details on how the photographs were created and the camera settings used. Many of the finished photographs are composites created from dozens of individual long-exposure images, allowing different portions of the water and surrounding landscape to be illuminated and combined into a single final photograph. Where access and the wishes of private property owners permit, location maps are also provided.

Guy Bryant
Valdosta, GA
Guy is a dedicated photographer with a lifelong love for nature. He enjoys hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving, spelunking, and cave diving. To experience the diversity and beauty of this wonder-filled planet, he has traveled to all 50 states and, unbelievably, to all the continents, including Antarctica. Interest in watercolor, oil painting, and pastels let him to digital photography. Initially, photography was just a vehicle for future art subjects, but now he incorporates it into all his travels and outdoor adventures.
