Acerca del libro
Some of the most ubiquitous sites seen along roadsides in the US Southwest are shrines and memorials, often featuring crosses, flower arrangements, ghost bicycles, and a variety of personal moments. The intention behind these memorials seems obvious, but the long history of this tradition may not be as clear. With over 100 photos and text, this book both honors those commemorated and also suggests how this tradition can continue to be relevant and meaningful for all of us in modern society.

Around the time that Rachel Carson published her revolutionary book Silent Spring, documenting the damage being done through the use of DDT, I was developing a passion for both photography and environmental issues. Unfortunately, whether through expediency or lack of vision, I pursued neither as I entered my main career years. These many years later, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have a second career as a photographer based in southern Arizona. My goal is to use this to spark reflection and discussion of broader social and environmental issues.
