"UNREASONABLE RHYMES, Vol. no. 1, Told by Anne Idyott,"is the first of three groups of illustrated limericks from 1894, restored by Rick Schmidt.  The book carries the original unknown author's name as, "Anne Idyott," which makes the most sense if spoken out loud.  The full book consists of 80 limericks, presenting in three volumes, Vol. No. 1 consisting of limerick #1-26, using place names of American cities as the content seed from which the many inventive limericks have been derived.  While the pen name, "Anne Idyott," has been used, it's possible to surmise that whatever the author's real name was, he/she was of British origin and did, in the late 1800, visit the various place names of American cities mentioned in the list of titles, including many West Coast sites; Santa Monica, San Francisco and Palms, Altadena to Eureka, up to Seattle, down to Yuma (many other California towns...), on to Tia Juana, over to Texas/Ft. Worth, across to the Midwest; Chicago,  Duluth, St. Paul, Kankankee, Detroit, then East; New York, Baltimore, Jersey City, down to Augusta, GA.  Also other countries; Hawaii, Mexico and Canada, Quebec, Britain of course, China, and exotic foreign cities such as Shanghai, Warsaw, Vienna, Bath, Perth.  Either the author was a world traveler or a world "reader," choosing places of which they has strong opinions, axes to grind, or knew enough to fashion clever word combination for their limericks.  In any case, uncovering the real author will take more research than anyone has committed to so far.  That leaves us to just enjoy the randomness of fantastic imagery, masterful drawings and comic combinations, to setting and characters who inhabit these masterpieces of words and imagery.
