The Rome-Centocelle line, commonly known as "il Tranvetto," was a railway that corresponded to the only still-operating section of the Rome-Fiuggi-Alatri-Frosinone railway, completed in 1917.
In quantum mechanics, observation alters the system, influencing the outcome and creating the observed physical reality, rather than simply detecting it. A similar phenomenon occurred during the creation of this photographic work. On March 4, 2026, I personally witnessed the accident between two trains on a single-track section. The service will never be resumed, and the line will close permanently. The oldest carriages at the time of service suspension dated back to 1926.
In an ever-faster world, the Tranvetto, until a few months ago, slowly passed through places that have profoundly changed since its adventure began. The area is rapidly transforming: a process of cultural syncretism giving rise to a new multiethnic community is countered by stories of exclusion and hardship.
The tracks, now overgrown with undergrowth, are the last witnesses of a time gone by.
