Acerca del libro
First built in the late 1870s at the base of Depot Hill, the inn at Capitola gradually evolved into the Colonial Revival and Queen Anne style hotel that was the showpiece of Frederick Hihn’s vacation retreat. From the time of its construction in 1895-1897 until it burned in 1929, the four-story structure designed by architect Edward L. Van Cleeck was the heart of the village and a source of pride.
One of the joys of history is reading and writing about stories that are never too old to revive and relive. Now it’s your turn to check into the Grand Hotel Capitola. Enjoy your vacation!

Acerca del creador
MicroPast was founded in 2025 by Gordon van Zuiden. MicroPast focuses on the detailed study of small units of research, such as individual lives, specific businesses, unique locations or immersive travel adventures. These detailed micro history stories emphasize depth over breadth, providing a nuanced understanding of history and travel through rich, contextual analysis. Gordon founded Micropast based on the passion that he has to explore unique historical stories in places where he has lived, worked or travelled, especially Los Gatos, Capitola, San Francisco and Paris, France. These stories are the culmination of working with fellow historians, online research, and in person interviews - weaving together rich, detailed, unique stories about people and events that have rarely been brought to life.
