Graphic designer and photographer, Stephen Foster, has lived and worked for most of his life in Surrey and, since semi-retiring in 2018, he has been able to spend more time exploring and photographing the beauty of this leafy county. Sometimes, however, it can be very easy to take your home landscape for granted and feel that, when compared to other ‘epic’ locations, the area in which you live is perhaps ‘unremarkable’. This feeling of discontent spurred a decision to undertake a project to further explore the extraordinary landscape around him. Stephen set himself an ongoing project to find and photograph ‘the epic’ and to look for the ‘remarkable’, in and around The Surrey Hills National Landscape.

Packed with atmospheric photos of landscapes, woodland, fungi, insects and flowers, this book is a photographic record of his journey of discovery so far. Stephen has also given a short anecdote about the inspiration behind some of his favourite pictures and, in the last section of this book, has included some of the fascinating history and information behind the locations he has visited.
