This is a hard cover book made with archival quality paper that will never yellow or fade. It covers the history of the Huffman, Alexander, Sturgill, Weaver, and Harris families from when they came to America to when they came west on the Oregon Trail. Cecil had at least seven ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War including Francis Sturgill who fought and was injured in the Battle of Kings Mountain. Cecil's ancestors moved to Sullivan County, Missouri in the 1840s. His parents were born there shortly before the Civil War. Missouri was torn apart by the turmoil that came with the Civil War so Cecil's parents, grandparents and some of his great-grandparents left Missouri in the 1860s and travelled west via the Oregon Trail. They intended to go to the Willamette Valley where Portland, Oregon stands today, but misfortune awaited them on the Oregon Trail. The wagon train made it as far as eastern Oregon before autumn arrived. They spent a difficult winter south of present day Elgin, Oregon. They intended to continue their journey when spring arrived, but after spending a winter in northeast Oregon, they decided to stay and make it their home. Cecil Huffman was born there on his parents' homestead in 1886. Cecil and his brother, Walter, were drafted to serve in the Great War, now known as World War I. Walter served in France, but Cecil was taken away on a secretive mission to Siberia with the American Expeditionary Force Siberia. In a military operation that few Americans have heard of, he fought the supporters of Vladimir Lenin's Red Army. Cecil returned home and built a farm in Idaho and later owned a furniture store in Riverside, California with his brothers. This is a story of an American who was born before the Wright brothers flew their first airplane and died after man was in space. It is the story of how Cecil and his extended family helped make America what it is today.
