Acerca del libro
a modernist essay comprised of black and white photographs from a project begun in Savannah, GA, summer of 2015.
it is the work of artist, r.chorneau, who had become displaced in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
turning to a small digital camera and tablet, r.chorneau documented his journey using images made from where he lived, where he went, and what he saw along the way.
eventually finding himself on the streets of Portland, Oregon, he concluded this project in summer, 2025, due to chronic health issues.
"pushing in a dark age" is the first of three volumes, each depicting different aspects of his photography, selections made of work distilled from a decade of production, curated and posted daily to his (amercanseekingasylum) Flickr site.
in short, the pictures here endeavor to question how much silence an image might hold before collapsing.

..sometime in 1955, and long before I was ever aware of French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson’s “decisive moment”, I experienced my own such moment which in retrospect was as defining as it was decisive, that time I drew my name in wet concrete. drawing is a language one learns to make mischief with at an early age. When drawing is about finding truth in first things said, these days I like to start by breaking the tip of the pencil, like a welder scratch starts the arc of a burning rod.
