These pictures were taken in late April and early May of 2023. The trip was in three parts: two stays on Hawaii, separated by a relatively short stay on Oahu. The beauty of the former is very familiar to me, but my visits to Oahu had consisted of nothing more than some stops at the airport, so I was excited to explore that island, and to discover its particular brand of magic. It did not disappoint.
Now that I have spent time on all the major Hawaiian islands, I can see why people say that each has its own personality, its own kind of beauty, and its own way of making you happy.
I intentionally avoided spending a lot of time in Honolulu, although I’m sure it has its charms. The natural beauty of Oahu- what was there before the big hotels- was what I wanted to photograph. Do the pictures do justice to the incredible sights I saw? Of course not. But the fun is in trying- fool’s errand or not- to make that happen, just a bit. Whether (or to what degree) I succeeded is up to the reader to decide.
