The title of this photo book, Luar Biasa (“extraordinary” in Bahasa Indonesia), was chosen to describe the Indonesian tribal art that is to be found within its cover. But more than that, it refers to the fact that all Indonesian tribal art is “luar biasa.” The diversity of the peoples of Indonesia and their art is astounding. By publishing these heretofore-unknown pieces I hope to contribute to the knowledge of Indonesian tribal art, stimulate interest in its origins and appreciation of its creative beauty.
