The following image series capture the desert terrains surrounding Phoenix, Arizona. The stark contrasts between the textures and colors of the cacti plant life embedded within rich brown rock formations and sandy soils provide new experiences of the desert. These image impressions take the viewer on a journey through these transformative combinations to a world beyond common thoughts of barren expanses. The blending of sunlight and shadows within these colors and textures enables unique landscapes. Viewing nature on a macro, or “close up” scale enables us to fully engage in what is already here, often what we do not realize as wondrous and part of our everyday surrounding.

The artist focuses on images of nature found in our daily lives. Yet, when taken out of context and composed within new “frame works”, the same natural phenomena can be elevated to reveal unique combinations of light, texture, shapes, and color.
