The World of Project Fighters: Character Design explores three fighting game characters that exist in a fantasy Japan inspired world created by myself. The three characters represented in the book are DADDY, Habu, and Monk. In a book totalling 20 pages, each character has around 5-6 pages of detailed work and descriptions of each character. Each section of the book is divided into three parts, one for each character. In each section there is art ranging from basic sketches, iterations, expressions, movesets, thumbnails, orthographics, stages, and final illustration. In other words it contains all the art needed to help create a character in a game. Each character has a different background and personality that exist in the same world. DADDY is a Macho cat, a race of cats who devote their lives to cat wrestling, but was exiled from his race for having an interest outside cat wrestling. He finds an abandoned human child, which he takes in as his daughter, gaining a new purpose in life as a single father. Habu follows a person who has lived her whole life being told what to do without standing up for herself. She hits a breaking point and realizes her weakness, and makes it her strength, by making sure no one steps over her ever again. She finds a kiseru pipe with the Icon of the god of pestilence living in it and uses it to control a city. And finally, Monk is a wandering “hero” who saves people from danger. Although he means no ill intent, he has a very extreme sense of justice, and anything that is unjust needs to be punished with extreme violence. Everything in the world is either good or evil to him. The book covers the process that went behind designing these characters and how they will play in the game.
